We’ve been in Andrés’ home town Manizales for the last few weeks, a small city in the heart of Colombia’s coffee-growing region. Yet, on the lower slopes of the surrounding Andean mountains, where the climate cakes_stackedbecomes warmer and more tropical, the coffee bushes give way to fields of bright green sugar cane which is used to make one of Colombia’s most traditional products: panela.

…And can I just rave about the cheesecake?…My husband proclaimed it the best cheesecake he's ever had—and he's eaten his share of non-vegan cheesecakes…

…It's always a risk taking non-vegetarians to an untried vegetarian restaurant: one bad experience could turn them off vegetarian food forever…But there was no need to worry about Manna Restaurant. I guess there's a reason they've been around forty years: They do vegetarian (and now vegan) very, very well.

…The cheesecake came with some macadamia nut ice-cream that nearly made my tongue faint. It was smooth and sweet and punctured with nuts. If this is vegan ice-cream, someone needs to free the cows…With such a varied and exciting menu, I would go to Manna again just to see how their other dishes work out...
